Pauly's Project was founded in 2013 by Paul Avila, inspired by his son Pauly — who is blind, autistic, and nonverbal — and his extraordinary love for music. Paul started distributing radio headsets to people experiencing homelessness on Skid Row so they could have what his son had: music, comfort, and the feeling of being connected. What began as a personal act of kindness grew into a full outreach organization serving thousands across Southern California. Paul passed away on July 1, 2025. His family and team carry his mission forward.

Pauly's Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Southern California. We serve two communities: individuals and families experiencing housing instability through monthly outreach and workforce programs, and the autism community through resource events and advocacy. We do not have a physical storefront — our team brings resources directly to the people who need them.

Three things set us apart. We go to the people — no one has to come to us. Our outreach is consistent — we show up at least twice a month, every month, which builds real trust. And our mission is personal — this organization was built by a father who understood what it felt like to love someone the world overlooked. That empathy is baked into everything we do.

Community Heroes are our monthly supporters. Tiers start at $10 per month and go up to $125 per month for VIP. Every tier includes quarterly impact updates and your name on our Digital Honor Roll. Higher tiers include custom gifts and a ticket to our Yearly Gala. We also accept item donations year-round — clothing, hygiene products, blankets, and sleeping bags. Outreach happens at least twice a month across LA and Southern California. No experience needed — just a willingness to show up. Corporate groups, faith communities, and student organizations are also welcome.

Since 2013 Pauly's Project has distributed over 10,000 radio headsets, serves approximately 20,000 people annually, and grown from a one-man mission on Skid Row into a movement with hundreds of volunteers. We've been featured on PBS SoCal, ABC7 Los Angeles, KIIS FM, and KOST 103.5, and partnered with the LA2050 Grants Challenge. Every number represents a person who was seen, met with dignity, and given something to hold onto.
